Our publishing house encourages the initiative. And if you really have to use a classic canon, at least let it be done with a bit of originality!;-) #3 – La Ponga Edizioni – Stefano Tevini As series editor of La Ponga Edizioni I try, in my own small way, to be on top of things, to have my finger on the pulse of the contemporary scene of genre literature. The discriminating factor, in this sense, is understanding when a trend can bear interesting fruit and when, instead, it runs out, becoming a tired trend and no longer a harbinger of titles worth publishing. To give a practical example in both senses, I find that the zombie trend is showing its ropes, the titles of pure exploitation of the trend, without real value, are starting to be many and the driving force of the subgenre is far from moments of excellence such as those given away by Max Brooks.
On the contrary, I find the superhero genre decidedly vital. Here we still see few novels of the genre, but overseas authors like Chris Strange and Blake Northcott are creating extremely valid material. Here we can also see the push of cinema and of commercially and artistically happy periods of reference realities such as Marvel Comics. Here, this is the criterion for Phone Number Data accepting or not a fantasy or science fiction story: vitality, the ability to tell. The hundreds of fantasies cloned from the most boring D&D game, the dystopias derived from the most hackneyed cyberpunks do not find a home at La Ponga Edizioni. We are small and young, we cannot afford to be banal too. #4 – Animated letters – Roberto Incagnoli, Editorial & Communications Director As a rule, we don't like reading forced stories because they're fashionable. We're tired of reading about vampires and werewolves and little witches looking for something.
We often believe we have to write something we like to read or see. Not everyone knows how to write a certain genre. Writing a fantasy or science fiction book is very difficult because the line that divides disaster from a good book is very thin. #5 – Bel-Ami Edizioni – Armando Rotondi, Editorial Director Fantasy has currently had enormous, perhaps excessive, development in all its forms. It is also difficult to define what fantasy is, because it takes the form of a macro-world in which different typologies are present: from sword & sorcery to a realistic story/novel with fantastic elements, up to bordering on horror or science fiction.
