Whoever had just nearly crashed into her, it was apparent that he was at least somewhat used to it. Nevertheless she ran straight to him and dropped to her knees.
"Oh, god... Are you alright?!" She helped pull him upright, leaning him against the remains of the tree he'd just collided with. There were some small scrapes on his back and head, but all things considered he had taken the impact remarkably well. "Ah, hold still..." She whispered a spell to herself, and her fingertips became covered in a pleasant blue glow. "I'm no expert in healing magic, so this might sting a bit, so... uh, take it easy." She lightly pressed her palm to the wounds. "That was quite a fall you took. Nothing's shaken inside?"

"Urg... just... slightly dizzy." Ivan blinked a few times to let the world clear up around him. "Ah... sorry for almost running into you, Miss...?"

"Robinson." She nodded, applying the spell more carefully. "Skyla Robinson. And, if you don't mind my asking, who might you be, flying about at this hour?"

"My name is Ivan Tsarevich. Er... I don't crash all the time when I'm flying. I swear." He chuckled nervously. "Things just kinda... stopped working."

"Ivan... Tsarevich? Oh, that's how I recognized you! You're the hero of old Russian folklore, correct? So there really are heroic spirits everywhere..." she added dreamily. "...Oh, um, right. That crash looked like it was due to mana deficiency... If you want to live for much longer, I'd advise against using that noble phantasm of yours. Unless... Do you suppose we could help each other out?"

"Are you suggesting that you become my Master?" He pondered the idea. "It would be nice to have a stable mana source so I don't end up disappearing... although, what may I do for you in return?"

"Well, that's the thing... If you partner with me, you'll be making a lot of enemies. Impossible odds. Frankly I doubt I'll live to see my next birthday. But , for... certain reasons, I know I have to fight. It's the right thing to do. And it would be a bit easier with an ancient hero like you on my side. But it's alright if you'd rather pair with a master who lives a quieter life than mine. I certainly know I would after centuries of fighting..."

"I... wow." Ivan was taken aback by the sudden grim tone. "Well, I suppose that settles it then. I can't just leave you to walk to your own death alone. Plus, I've already faced a few unsavory individuals in my lifetime; what's a few more?" He gave a reassuring smile. "So no more talk of dying young, alright? You're far too good to think of such sad things."

She smiled back and failed to hold back a giggle. "If you say so." She slowly ran her fingertips across his chest until they rested on his heart. Her left palm, meanwhile, was placed on her own. "Of two hearts, one circuit-- of two souls, one purpose," she recited. The two of them trembled for a moment. When she opened her eyes she saw the color returning to his cheeks. It felt like a heavy blood transfusion on her part, offering up a large portion of her being to sustain the whole of another's. But Ivan was breathing more steadily now, and that alone was worth it for her. "Feeling better?"

"Yes, much better now. Thank you." He stood up and stretched his arms. "So, where to now-" Suddenly a flash of gold light appeared next to him, outlining and then materializing into a rather angry horse.
"What. The hell. Were. You. Thinking!"
"... So this is my horse Pyotr. Pyotr, meet Skyla, my new master."
"Yes I know she's your master- how do you do? - otherwise I wouldn't be here right now. Seriously come on man. You can't just spend all your mana on the first day back! What would you do if you didn't end up finding this girl? Or worse, you ended up crushing her in that fall of yours!"
"Well that would be rather unfortunate-"
"Damn right it would!"
Ivan turned to Skyla. "He's not always this angry." The horse huffed.

"It's a... pleasure to meet you, Pyotr. I'd hate to ask you of this after just waking up, but how quickly could you take us to a magus village just north of London?"

"It'd be faster if we used the carpet buuuut seeing how well that turned out last time," he said, glancing to the side at Ivan who stood there with a sheepish grin,"- I think I'll just handle it from here. It shouldn't take too long."

"Yes, that... that sounds..." The pull of the horse's presence along with Ivan's seemed to weight down on the last of her energy. "Like a good plan..." Her knees buckled and she collapsed into his arms. "I-I must not be used to sustaining another being with magic. Could we set out first thing tomorrow?"

"Whoa!" He helped her slowly get back on her feet. "Alright, that sounds fine. Take it easy for the rest of the night, okay?"
He turned to Pyotr, though the horse already knew what he was about to say. "Yeah yeah I know. Gotta go to conserve the lady's mana, right?" Ivan nodded. The horse turned his head toward Skyla. "See you tomorrow then." Once more, in a flash of gold, he disappeared.
Ivan looked back at Skyla. "I can dematerialize too to ease the cost of mana, if you'd like."

"N-no, you're not that much of a strain on me. I just need a night's rest. Tomorrow's going to be a big day."
