Name: William II De Soules
Epithet: Lord of the Hermitage
Class: Caster
Age: 44
Strength: C
Endurance: D
Agility: B+
Mana: A --> A+ (His mana Ceiling increases within Hermitage Castle)
Luck: D
Skills:
Charisma (C): Because of his political position and authority, Caster has an increased ability to win favor with others. However, because of his Innocent Monster skill, this Charisma level is only enough to counteract the natural fear and mistrust that others have of him.
Territory Creation (A): Caster is able to create a Castle, based on his own Hermitage Castle, making a fortified defensive structure in which mana can be generated and regenerated much more efficiently.
Item Construction (D): As a member of the Caster class, Caster can generate tools and material for his rituals, mostly simple weapons and items associated with dark magic (skulls, wands, etc.)
Blood-Red Cap (EX --> E): Caster’s work in the dark arts has granted him access to a redcap familiar which, in its inactive form, appears as a bloody red cap on his head. As long as this cap remains wet with blood from a freshly killed victim, Caster’s dark magic manifests as a personal protection skill granting him immunity to binding and most metals. Caster cannot be bound by any means: ropes, cages, and magical bindings will dissolve around him; this even applies to Command Seals. Caster will also be undamaged by any kind of metal, whether it be a rusty nail or a metallic Noble Phantasm. However, he is extremely weak to lead, which will sap his magical energy. The strength of the cap will gradually weaken over time as the blood on it dries.
Familiar Creation (A): See the Robin Redcap Noble Phantasm.
Innocent Monster (B): Caster’s appearance has been distorted by the legends told about his skills in dark magic, turning him from an unremarkable Servant into a powerful one.
Magecraft (B+): Caster has an extremely high degree of proficiency with alchemical magic and dark rituals. His elemental magic is limited to relatively mundane wind and lightning spells, roughly on par with a powerful magus.
Noble Phantasms:
Robin Redcap (Anti-Unit, B+):
The main feature of Caster’s dark magic is his ability to summon a familiar, Robin Redcap. Robin Redcap manifests as a short old man, with razor-sharp teeth and strength and speed to match that of a Servant, wearing a bloody red cap. In order to summon Robin Redcap, Caster must remove his Blood-Red Cap, temporarily causing him to lose access to his self-protective abilities. Robin Redcap will attack at Caster’s direction with his sharp teeth and claws, but is prone to rampaging through innocent bystanders. Robin Redcap can be recalled back into the Blood-Red Cap, which will be freshly soaked in blood to power Caster’s personal protection skills.
Ninestane Rig (Anti-Unit (Self)/Anti-World, B+):
A self-sacrificial Noble Phantasm representing Caster’s death. This Noble Phantasm binds Caster in a sheet of lead, his only weakness, before generating a Reality Marble around him. The area is encircled by nine great stones with a barrier in between, trapping everyone inside. The area will gradually fill up with boiling blood, killing Caster and anybody in the area without powerful and thorough magical protection. Caster will strongly resist using this Noble Phantasm unless a Command Seal is used, and the Command Seal is only effective when Blood-Red Cap is nullified or weakened.
Background: Caster was a Scottish nobleman and lord of Hermitage Castle, with a reputation for being a cruel landlord. After a failed plot to overthrow the Scottish King Robert, he was imprisoned, where he mysteriously died. Scottish legend paints him as a student of the dark arts, with a redcap familiar spirit and immunities to many conventional forms of damage. His manifestation as a Caster is based on these legends, rendering him a mysterious yet powerful dark mage.
Current Goals: Caster holds a grudge against the magical establishment, who rejected him in his time, as well as the nonmagical majority that feared and harassed him, and ultimately causes his death. He finds kindred spirits in other disillusioned, loner mages, especially ones that were cast out and rejected as he was.

"I'm looking for a Mr. Blair?"
"Hm?"
"Blair? Jackson?"
"You're also looking for him?"
"Also?"
"Forget about it, I'll call f-- Actually I remember, he left just about an hour ago."
"Did he leave with anyone?"
"A tall woman who doesn't live here, why?"
"What was her name?"
"We don't just give out everything about our residents here ma'am."
"I... that's all I need to know thanks."

Dante
One two three. One two three.
"...Father Dante," one of the millions of voices began.
I'm listening.
The follower's voice seemed shocked to hear him directly address him. "We... we have failed to capture Zain Krauss."
Unfortunate.
"He had the help of some mages, and... and a servant. An archer equipped with a powerful firearm."
Sounds like one of Zamiel's freeshooters... although I haven't the slightest clue why any of them would turn on me. I freed them of a curse far worse than Ruler's. They ought to be donning our cloaks in the dozens. I suppose I'll have to look into it...
"However, the endeavor wasn't completely fruitless. We have, for the time being, captured a wielder of the Lucania crest. She is also a maiden of The Church..."
Lucania...
"One of the seven pieces, although not the piece we had been searching for. Does this please you, Father?"
...Of course it does. The Lucania crest is a piece of the puzzle of equal size to that of Conzette or Krauss, Association be damned. Put extra care into her comfort, and find a hood in her size.
"But, Father Dante... as I said before, she bows before the holy order."
Then tell her the truth. I'm sure she'll find it enlightening. If she's a heroic soul, as Lucanias often are, she'll join us.
"Your will be done, Father."
Dante yawned and cracked his knuckles. His clothes were covered in soot and slightly discolored from the fire, and yet he had still for some reason chosen a brick chimney as his place to sit.
One two three.
"FATHER!"
Hm? What's the matter?
This newer voice was younger, and twisted by a heavy, furious tone. Krauss... W-we can't let him escape!"
I'm afraid we've already missed our opportunity for the day. Perhaps tomorrow--
"NO!" The boy's panting seemed through the mental link. "He killed my brothers and sisters... He and those two mages, and that damned sniper, and the wolf..."
...Patience. Remember the words I left you before venturing into Paradise.
"I know, I... but still. I saw them die before my eyes. That's not even the worst of it..."
What troubles you, then?
"The blood. The stench of House Krauss is strewn all across the outskirts! The mana signature from the killings is burnt into my mind... and now it's all in the air. I'm going to tear myself apart if I can't track down the source!"
As it happens, I am in London right now.
"You what...?"
Rest and prepare for tomorrow's horrors. I will deal with this Krauss myself. Otherwise what sort of Father would I be?
"You'll kill him for me, Father?"
The blood of their house is thick, and their crest widespread. If I find the Zain Krauss that slaughtered our brothers and sisters, I will annihilate him for you. Finding one of his many cousins will be a simple matter. But if what you're smelling is an entirely different person... Then there will be other matters to attend to.
"All I want is justice, Father Dante. Please."
That's what we all want. With that, Dante broke off the connection and dropped down from his seat. He sprinted from rooftop to rooftop, traveling further down into the outskirts until he detected a mana signature. I see. His eyes gleamed red, and in his vision the city became strewn in tangled red threads. A mana web. A form of magus presence concealment on tier with the old masters. Most common witches wouldn't detect a speck of magic, and the greatest of hunters couldn't pinpoint any origin through all of these knots and misdirections. But some casters... His eyes narrowed, and the red glow dimmed. Well, it just reminds me of the good old days. Rubrum Uitta Conscidisti. The invisible threads shuddered and were cut to pieces. Each stray cord was pulled until the original was seized: almost Zain Krauss's signature. But not quite. Sorry, little Lukas. Maybe some other day.
He took to the rooftops once more and zeroed in on his target. Whoever he is, he must be absolutely desperate to not be noticed. Which just makes me want to meet him all the more. He found the apartment building his target was standing in front of and perched on its balcony. Dante slowly pulled down his crimson hood and dropped to the ground directly in front of him.
Just like that. One two three.
"...Sorry. That little tugging from earlier was me."

Webster Krauss
How on earth...?
As the strangely dressed figure revealed his face, it became suddenly apparent to Webster that he was dealing with a teenager. The thought didn't comfort him at all; if anything, the situation became exponentially more unnerving.
Webster had never received any indication that the association had a kid like this in their employ... but then, wasn't quite sure who else this kid could be working for, either. Could he be in the employ of Jeb Yurrick? Of Kirin Oshiro?!
In a moment of panicking realization, Webster realized what was so off about the figure in front of him -- his mana wasn't flowing like an ordinary mage's at all. It wasn't slowly leaking into the worldlike it normally would, a byproduct released anytime a magus exerted themself, but instead, this boy's mana didn't extend so much as an inch beyond his body. If the kid hadn't just performed a feat of incredibly powerful tracking magic, Webster might not have noticed the fact that he had mana at all. As it was, his mana was indistinguishable from a corpse's: locked into its circuits, fixed, static... dead.
It crossed Webster's mind that perhaps this was one of the mana-powered automotons he'd heard about, perhaps a creation of Cody Lazarus... but that didn't really fit this situation either. Lazarus' creations tended to be relatively straightforward in their actions and responses, always seeking to fulfill a specific singular goal, and they never went out of their way to act mysterious like this kid did. Besides, his gestures, and facial expressions, were all too human anyhow.
A thought flickered across Webster's mind for half a second before he dismissed it, not because it didn't make sense but because it led him down a line of thinking he didn't dare pursue quite yet. It may not even have been his thought to begin with...
This is a much more ancient magic. RULER'S magic. Isn't it obvious, Webster?
"I wasn't expecting to meet anyone. What are you here for?"

Dante
"For you, of course!" he said with a kittenish smile. He stepped closer and lowered his voice so that only Webster was within earshot. "I was out in the city, tracking down a certain cousin of yours... Zain, I think his name was. He's gone and left now, to be terminated some other day, but along the way I sensed something much more enticing. You, my friend, are a mage with potential vastly outshining the vast majority of the so-called 'Magus Council', and yet rather than basking in the fame and glory one would think you'd have coming, you've instead chosen to vanish from the magical world and take refuge behind countless layers of security. You must be pretty attached to this life of yours to be so desperate to preserve it in light of whoever you think is trying to track you down... You're very lucky to have been blessed with magic of such potent quality. And very unlucky that I was just a teeny bit better. So I'm just dying to know... What's the story? It's not like you can escape from me or fight back without causing a fuss, so you might as well get comfortable. I promise I won't snitch!"

Webster Krauss
"You... how did you..." Focus, Webster. He's trying to knock you off-balance. Don't let him get inside your head!
It took a few seconds for Webster to start breathing again, and a few seconds longer for his heartbeat to return to normal. He swallowed and tried again. The kids eyed bored into him the entire time. Give him what he wants, don't reveal too much, keep alert...
"My name is... Webster Krauss. I don't know what you think you know about me, but I've been... on the run, for a while. I'm fucking tired of it. The past couple of days, I've been trying to start over."

Dante
"I can tell." Dante leaned against the apartment building's wall. "By the way you hold yourself. Always looking over your shoulder. And the mana web you'd crafted... You fascinate me, Webster Krauss. I've chosen to believe what little story you do seem to be willing to share. Because, like it or not, you can help me a great deal. And I know for certain that I can help you as well." He tilted his head. "...Tell me. If your 'corpse' were to suddenly appear at the foot of the tower of London, whose coat pocket bore a hastily written letter filled with baseless apologies to your loved ones and the family crest... would that suffice as to lose your pursuers? I've many a spare red cloak, and we could vanish together. And a wizard of your caliber would be an incredible master to have... No more past, no more worries, and just a little hint of defiance. But only if you're willing to be a part of something much greater than yourself. A change in the world itself. Something truly wonderful." He giggled, but smiled at Webster sincerely. "...Interested?"

By midnight, Sybil has been transported to a cell somewhere underground, below Florence. Although the door is sealed with complex magic, her living space is line with extravagant decorations fit for the bedroom of a queen. Over the door hangs a red cloak.

"Don't tell me we've forgotten in just two measly years." Dante leaned forward. "Master to a servant, that is. I'm sorry to have brought in my own introduction so late... You may call me Caster. Like I said, things are starting to change."

Kirin
London whispered. 1 AM was a time for wanderers. For many, it was the start of their graveyard shift. Wanderers out of necessity. Others were dragging themselves along half-conscious, most likely to the next source of alcohol or cocaine. The people were mostly silent to one another, but the glossy cars in the streets puttered along, loud as ever. Thus the city was set into an auditory illusion in which the sounds of the cold breeze and the rubber against the concrete were louder than anything imaginable.
Stay asleep, Hera, Kirin thought to himself as he felt the urban air come onto him at full force, the automatic doors closing behind him. Nothing but orange and black outside, in the streets. He was still in his suit, and hadn’t bothered with a coat. Not that he needed the cold’s help to keep him sleepless that night. He wandered, generally towards where he had tracked down Archer earlier that evening, but he quickly let himself become lost in the steel and concrete forest that was the edge of London. He didn’t much care for the smell of the gutters or the alley walls which were marked in neon by the natives, but it was better for his head than another night of her.
The girl who sounded like Riza.
The hooded mages haunted him. The crimson image of Alighieri, as well, and the rogue Berserker. One could easily connect the three, but what disturbed Kirin the most was the sheer indifference he seemed to feel towards it all. It was only where Hera was threatened that he cared. His business was strictly personal. Which betrayed everything his partner stood for. Cody, who was unafraid of death. Of love. Or killing those who loved him if it meant furthering his goals.
For Kirin, there was only Hera. And her. But in order for him to sleep another night in his life, he had to follow this spirit. Fitting, for a spirit, to have haunted him so.
A brick and wood tavern glowed a faint yellow in the corner of an otherwise hopeless alley. Laughter and piano drew him in like a flame would a moth. He wanted something light, something just to keep him a little warmer for the rest of the hours of darkness, but there was already someone at the bar. A mostly empty glass of whisky dangled weakly from the fingers of a man relying so heavily on the counter to keep upright that, had it vanished, he might have fallen to the floor and never gotten up. His hair was a curled mass of grey and dark brown, above a chin that had been neglected for far too long. His form, however, was all but spent in its entirety. His hand twitched and soon had to put down the glass to avoid dropping it.
“...Thanks, lad,” the man said as he weakly gestured to his bartender. He then mumbled to himself for a bit, checking his sleeves for stains until he locked eyes with Kirin, who stood just outside the window.

Hera Gregg((Get ready cause this is gonna be looooong post)) ( some theme music for ya) London was beautiful. Even Hera had to admit that the shimmering lights distorted by the city's almost constant mist created a very picturesque view. The crisp wind blew at her hair further tangling her already messy locks as she breathed in the muggy, chilling air catching the strange combined scent of smoke and rotting leaves in the process. Hera sighed and wrapped her arms around herself in a futile effort to keep warm. The resonating chime of Big Ben echoed through her body drowning out the sounds of traffic below. If she wasn't shivering already, the deep harrowing bongs of the giant clock would certainly have made her shiver now. Damp earth clung to her feet. Where it came from she did not know for there certainly wasn't any earth where she was standing now. As Hera took in the beautiful mysteries of her surroundings, one thought stood at the forefront of her mind. Why the actual fuck am I standing on the roof in my pjs?Hera whispered a single word into the turbulent air around her causing a flame to spring to life in her palm. I can't believe I finally found you again... After all this time..."Who are you?!" Hera shouted as she frantically searched her surroundings for the source of the voice. You... you don't remember me?"What?" the intimidating woman checked the area around her once more. "Remember you? I don't think so... and I'm pretty sure I'd remember you if this is your normal method of starting a conversation." The owner of the high-pitched, soothing voice released a long, sorrow-filled sigh. She must've done something to make you forget."She? Who?" Hera paused. The voice seemed to be coming from all directions. She couldn't pinpoint a source no matter how much she tried. "I'm not sure if you can tell, but I am very much confused right now." The mysterious voice chuckled, You really haven't changed much at all, have you?"Er...I don't know how or when you knew me, so I'm not quite sure how to answer that question." Hera sat down. She couldn't explain it, but she felt at ease while speaking with this stranger. "Say, uh, don't suppose you could show yourself? I feel a little stupid speaking to thin air." OH! Yes! of course! Just give me a minute.A strange light circled around Hera where she sat. It was filled with blues mixed with greens and purples which each circled around in their own pattern; be it circles, spirals, or waves. Suddenly the fragments of light broke from their orbit around the woman and formed a whirlwind of colors on a spot on the roof next to her. As the colors dispersed they revealed a young man wearing a toga who stood in a rather overdramatic pose. " Ta-da! I-" the man suddenly let out a high-pitched scream as he began sliding down the roof. "Woah! HOLD ON!" Hera shouted after him as she reached out hand to grab his toga. Suddenly, she began to slide down the roof as well. "Aw, shit!" " Apperite Portos!" the man shouted just before they both reached the edge. A blinding flash of light filled the area and suddenly Hera found herself lying comfortably on a sandy beach. " Phew! That was close," said the mysterious man as he lay next to her. "Tell me about it," Hera replied with a sigh. " Ah, allow me to introduce myself once more. I'm Palaemon. Guardian of Ships, Boeotian prince, and great-grandson of Poseidon. It's a pleasure to meet you again, mihi flors." " Mihi flors?" " Oh... I guess you don't remember our Latin lessons anymore. It means-" "'My Flower,' I know. I'm just confused as to why you would call me that." " I- Well, you see- Oh, nevermind it. We have more important matters to discuss." "What do you mean?" " Well, since your father has sworn off magecraft and refuses to teach you or your brother about it, it's up to me to tell you your family history as well as teach you the Katsaros Family magic." "...Katsa what now?" " ...See that's a perfect example of why I'm here." "You lost me." Palaemon sighed, " This is gonna be a long night..."

Kirin
The bartender stepped back and calmly continued to polish the glass in his hand. Max lowered his head. "...Found me so soon?"
Almost instantly there was fire in Kirin's eyes. He pulled out his wand from within his suit and trained on at Max as he slowly entered the tavern. "...Explain yourself, Archer."
"What's there to explain?" he began, staring at the old bottles behind the bar. "I'm sure you've heard of what Dante's done. Released all of us servants. That's why I'm here. Damned thing is, now that I'm finally free..." His gaze turned to his bartender. "...There's nothing to do. So I just went back to drinking. I've got no master, no reliable mana source, none of the magic bullets... no Zamiel. I noticed you and the little lass were in trouble a few blocks away, so I figured I'd help out. Still got a noble phantasm, after all... And, well, that was the last of my mana." The shaking in his palms wasn't slowing down. The ends of his hair and the tips of his fingers were beginning to fade into black smoke. "It won't be long until I'm all spent. Maybe Ruler will take me back."
"...You had your freedom. If you had enough mana to take out twenty seven mages, I know for sure that you'd be able to last a decade as a normal person." He narrowed his eyes at Max, his wand now almost touching the side of his head. "What did you expect to gain from that?"
Max was silent for a moment. It was quiet in the bar, save for the steady evaporation of his body that resembled the crackling of a campfire. "I had to somehow make things right. There wasn't a day that went by, in that hell we call Sanctum, that I didn't think about what I'd done to her. I've had quite a few masters, as a weapon of death over the centuries... But no one ever like her. I felt like hanging myself when I was brought back into this world this morning... when I found out that she was still down there. I got a second chance. All of us 'heroic spirits', whatever the fuck that's supposed to mean, but not her. All I could do was try to think of what she'd want of me. One last favor for my master. Then I ran into you, and Miss Gregg. I did the only thing I could. I figured I could never save her, so the least I could do is make sure none of her friends could share her fate."
Kirin lowered his wand but still eyed him with fury. "...You're a fool if you think that my life is anywhere near the worth of hers."
"What about your girl?"
"..."
"Ah." Max raised his eyebrows. "Maybe I wasn't so useless after all."
"There is nothing you can do that will erase what you've done. Command seals or otherwise."
"Yes. I did pull that trigger. But maybe you'd like to take it up with the one who guided that bullet."
"...The demon?"
The bartender smiled and filled the glass. "On the house, son of Isa Oshiro. Take a seat." His eyes, now open, displayed a soul of unspeakable evil.

Lester Makar
Lester leaned against the railing on a rooftop, twirling the mask he took from his red-cloaked captive. The mage was still out cold, even after so many hours. The battery life on his phone was running low, so he couldn’t use it to help pass the time either. Les sighed. He hoped that he didn’t accidentally shock the mage into a coma, otherwise this whole ordeal would’ve been a massive waste of time. Plus, sending someone into a coma wasn’t really something Les could feel good about. At least, not under these circumstances. Fortunately, he heard a slight stir behind him. He turned around and saw the mage open his eyes and slowly sit up. The mage then saw Les and, in a fit of panic, started searching through his scarlet cloak.
“Oh? Seems you’re finally awake. Looking for these?” Lester put his foot over the tome and wand on the ground in front of him. “I’ll keep these here for the time being, if that’s okay.”
“... Who are you? Where are my brothers and sisters!?”
Les raised his hands in a calming gesture. “Relax, relax. I’m not going to hurt you or anything. In hindsight, I practically saved your life. You remember the wolf, right?” The mage nodded. “Yeah, well, I’m pretty sure it killed the rest of your friends.”
The mage’s eyes widened, shoulders slumping. “No…” A brief stretch of silence followed.
... Okay maybe I shouldn’t have said that. “Well, actually, maybe some are still alive. I’m sure they’re smart enough to bail like me. Anyhow, I just have some questions and then you’re free to search for the survivors. Deal?” The mage slowly nodded. “Good, good. Hold on just a sec.” Les pulled out his phone and scrolled through some notes. “Hmm… well, I suppose we’ll start with the wolf. I believe your leader back there called it a ‘Servant’? There’s more of them, aren’t there. What exactly is a Servant?”
The mage blinked a few times, surprised to find that Les didn’t know. “You… you weren’t born into a magus family, were you.”
Les rolled his eyes. “Alright, I admit I’m a more recent addition into the whole magic scene. If it’s such common knowledge among the community, do me a favor and fill me in.”
“Okay, well, Servants are basically superhuman individuals that once were significant figures from the past. Any important king, general, mythological hero you can think of? Most likely a Servant now. As their name suggests, they are slaves to Ruler, though you might know Him as God.”
Huh… that’s certainly something.
“We of House Eterna have freed them from the shackles of Ruler. They roam freely around the globe now, no longer bound to a tyrant.”
“That sure worked out well for you.” Les ignored the mage’s scowl. “Anyways, your little group, House Eterna, what’s your goal here? What’s the point of all this?”
The mage chuckled. “Oh, I wouldn’t call it a little group. We’ve been around for centuries, biding our time, watching the corruption of Ruler and the Mage’s Association spread. And now, it is finally our time to fix what is broken. Freeing the Servants was just the beginning. We will share magecraft to the whole world. No longer will the masses have to be in the dark.” Les subconsciously placed his hand over the scar on his neck. “The tower that the Mage’s Association sits on will topple, and Ruler’s laws will be no more. We wish to start a new era, of justice and freedom.”
Les couldn’t help but smile at the thought. “That’s certainly ambitious.” Looks like they’re gonna do my job for me. Well, this explains a lot. The red star was likely their doing. The strange figure in the sky was probably a Servant. Although, what exactly were those Eterna mages doing back there? The Servants were already released by then it seems, and it didn’t look like they were trying to teach magic to outsiders. There must be more to the story. Les looked at the last point in his notes that he wished to inquire about. “Your leader, not the one back there but… this ‘Father Dante’ person. What’s he like?”
The mage tilted his head. “Perhaps you would like to meet him yourself. You could join us, you know. You’re an outsider, aren’t you? Surely you’d like to break the status quo as much as we do. House Eterna is open to all who wish to join.”
Les thought about it for a moment. “Hmm… as fun as that sounds, I’m not looking to join a cult quite yet. Although, you wouldn’t happen to have any contact information in case I change my mind, do you?”
The mage shrugged. “We’ll be around. I’m sure you can find us on your own. Do keep considering.”
“I suppose I will. I guess I’m done here. Clearly you have nothing else to say.” He put his phone away and started making his way to the stairs. “Goodbye for now, though I have a feeling our paths will cross again.” He waved without looking back and descended the stairs, leaving the red-cloaked mage alone on the rooftop. Just after Lester left, the Eterna mage felt a brief chill. He then heard a very faint growl. His heart nearly slowed to a stop as he realized that there was another being with them on the rooftop this whole time. One second passed.
Two.
Three.
The feeling of dread slowly subsided. It seemed like he was left alone, for real this time. He let out the breath he was holding and looked to the stairs. He wondered if the other mage knew.

Ivan Tsarevich
London was a beautiful city, and even more so at nighttime as the city lights were scattered as far as one could see. There was a wonderful mix of new and old here that he finally had the chance to explore. His mind was so lost in the sights and lights that he forgot to mind his mana. When he finally realized it was too late. His carpet started giving way beneath him. Uh oh wait wait wait AGH- He managed to bring himself to a lower altitude before the carpet disappeared completely, leaving him to fall to the street below. Fortunately it was empty, save for one red-haired girl. Unfortunately, his trajectory would lead him straight into her. “Look out!”
“Huh!?” She looked up and quickly sidestepped just enough so that he would crash into the tree behind her.
